Sold Out - Jean-Paul Estiévenart Quintet "Strange Bird"

Since 2013 Jean-Paul Estiévenart offers us music without any detours. He wrote this music for his trumpet/contrabass/drums trio, a minimalistic formation in which he carries the melodies alone. For his new project, he wanted to propose another aspect of his profession as a composer to the listeners. He surrounded himself with harmonic instruments, Nicola Andrioli on piano and Romain Pilon on guitar. They create the soundscape on which Jean-Paul can play his trumpet with power and finesse.

The rhythm section unites Nicolas Thys and Antoine Pierre (who can be found together in TaxiWars and Harcsa/Gyemant quartet). The symbiosis between the drummer and the trumpeter is also evident (Urbex, Jean-Paul Estiévenart Trio, Lorenzo Di Maio Group, ...). Although the music of the quintet is more substantial than that of the trio, it remains characterised by the great musical quality of Estiévenart : its sobriety. The autobiographical pieces of "Strange Bird" are a journey into the heart of his life, but above all an invitation to surrender to the absorbing power of our emotions.
