“Outstanding” is an overused description but one that’s applied to bassist Orlando le Fleming so consistently that its justification can’t be denied. While living in New York he brought his inimitable personality to work on projects for the likes of B. Marsalis, J. Calderazzo, A. Sanchez, K. Rosenwinkel, B. Charlap, B. Cobham, K. Hays, W. Krantz, J. Cobb, A. Hoenig, S. Blake, J. “Tain” Watts, L. Odom Jr, M. Turner and D. Sanchez among many others. His latest endeavor, Romantic Funk, presents a pastiche of classic fusion sounds and ideas, updated by Le Fleming’s signature palette of polyrhythm and abstract exploration.
