"In every blown air pipe, half-open or open, the vibrating air molecule generates a unique path, resulting in a unique timbre." This was written by the Belgian instrument maker Victor-Charles Mahillon 100 years ago. Take 4 musicians with 4 ’tubes’. This gives you 4 resonating air columns and consequently 4 sounds that merge into one unique timbre. The symbiosis of these 4 single air columns gives the unique sound of this quartet. Call it ’Chamberjazz’ in an unusual formation, expect a wide sound spectrum, echoes of intricate chamber music to free improvisation, and a whole range of ’extended techniques’ on each of these instruments. And all of this spiced and colored by 4 musicians with experience in various and diverse musical backgrounds, from classical and early music to jazz and free jazz, contemporary, experimental, and even folk music.
