Camille-Alban Spreng’s ODIL feat. Nina Kortekaas

Camille-Alban Spreng · Fender Rhodes & synths / Nina Kortekaas · voice & fx / Sam Comerford · tenor saxophone / Tom Bourgeois · alto and soprano saxophones / Geoffrey Fiorese · synths / Paul Berne · drums

Unheimlich’ is the name of the third and new opus of Camille-Alban Spreng’s ODIL project. This new record was born from Camille-Alban’s passion for Allen Ginsberg and the beatnik movement. The voice of Nina Kortekaas, present throughout the album, is also a great asset. About the American poet, the musician explains “I love his way of writing : it is funny, twisted, eccentric and witty at the same time. I couldn’t find a better title for this new album. ‘Unheimlich’ does not translate ; it describes something strange but familiar. The black cat in the lobby of a seedy hotel in ‘The Matrix’, I think of that image, that atmosphere.”
ODIL’s music has a narrative character and, in terms of form, the compositions are not ordinary. Improvisation also plays a prominent role and although the music is undoubtedly characterized by a contemporary jazz aesthetic, the compositions are first and foremost songs, which is a unique characteristic of the album. ‘Unheimlich’ is a jazz album that can just as easily be listened to as a pop rock album.
