Bruno Vansina Trio

Bruno Vansina - alto saxophone / Louise Van Den Heuvel - electric bass / Teun Verbruggen - drums

The saxophone trio has always held an important place for Bruno Vansina. His first great love in jazz was Sonny Rollins and particularly his trio albums ’Live at the Village Vanguard’ and ’Freedom Suite’. During his studies at the Conservatoire, he frequently played with Teun Verbruggen and Christophe Devisscher. Bruno’s first real band was the Vansina-Verbruggen-Gudmundsson trio. This trio has been touring for 8 years and has released 4 albums, two of which with special guests, Magic Malik and Jozef Dumoulin.

A few years later, in the midst of the coronavirus, Bruno met the young Louise Van Den Heuvel. After only a few rehearsals, the feeling passes so well that the trio is officially created. The complicity between Bruno and Teun for so many years did not, however, make the insertion of a new member particularly easy. However, Louise managed to be part of their universe and their music while bringing a breath of fresh air and boundless energy. If the trio is called (for now) Vansina, it is obvious that it is a formation where each member plays an equal role to form a unique and coherent cohesion. A band that plays pure jazz, searches for the essence of music, takes risks and plays together with enormous trust in each other. The trio is currently working on a new repertoire which they plan to release in the spring of 2023. Don’t expect swing, but everything that contemporary jazz stands for : clean compositions, rhythmic and harmonic virtuosity and, above all, l energy and fun galore.
