In partnership with the Dargaud editions and the Brussels Comic Strip Festival, and as part of the release of volume 6 of the incredible Blacksad series, the Jazz Station offers you a high level drawn concert: Stéphane Mercier Quartet at the music and Juanjo Guarnido in the drawing.

For many years, Stéphane Mercier has multiplied international projects with groups of varying sizes, ranging from intimate duo to big band. Since 2016, he has been the head of the Jazz Station Big Band. For this very special concert, Stéphane Mercier will present his new project to us. A desire to rediscover a certain alchemy, a certain lyricism born from the interaction between acoustic instruments. Jazz that takes pleasure in improvising from the beauty of the timbres, and infusing them with rhythms that contrast with the spaces in suspense. High-level jazz that invites the public to immerse themselves in its introspective universe.

In the comic book world, we no longer present the pencil maestro Juanjo Guarnido. A true luminary of his art, each of his new albums creates a stir in the media as well as in bookstores. In 2000, the publication of “Quelque part entre les ombres”, the first part of the Blacksad series, gave the small world of comics a big blow. Guarnido’s breathtaking graphics, with his sense of framing, his breathtaking angles of view and his zoomorphic characters larger than life, perfectly served the scenario of Canales, whose impeccable classicism paid homage to the world of thriller and film noir. After this trial run turned into a brilliant exercise in style, the series took on a new dimension by evoking strong themes, such as racism, corruption or segregation.

During this exceptional evening, Juanjo Guarnido will draw live, to the rhythm of the notes of the Stéphane Mercier Quartet. A real immersion in two worlds, to the delight of the eyes and ears!
An album sale and a signing session for Blacksad’s new album, in partnership with Librairie Flagey, are scheduled after the concert for concert spectators only.
