Gilad Hekselman’s ZuperOctave (USA)

Gilad Hekselman - guitar / Aaron Parks - keyboard, Rhodes, piano / Kendrick Scott - drums

Born in Israel in 1983, Gilad studied classical piano from the age of 6 and began playing the guitar 3 years later. He then joined the prestigious Thelma Yellin School of Arts, from which he graduated at the age of 18. Later, Gilad receives a scholarship that allows him to join the New School in New York. Since his arrival in 2004, he has gradually established himself as one of the most promising guitarists in the city. After only a few years, he shared the stage with several luminaries of the New York jazz scene, such as Chris Potter, Mark Turner, John Scofield, Anat Cohen, Ari Hoenig, Esperanza Spalding or Avishai Cohen. He has played in New York’s biggest clubs, and continues to tour around the world. Gilad’s new project, "ZuperOctave", is a trio without bass with Aaron Parks on keyboards and Kendrick Scott on drums. It’s a retro-futuristic sound, a project where he imagines the sound of the future of jazz as it could be perceived in the past. Hekselman and Parks take the low part, and sometimes, leave this space open. In terms of passion for melodies and rhythms, this project is not so different from what it has been able to offer in the past. And yet, in many other ways, it presents a whole new sound ...
